After the close of our season at Biosurfcamp, we want to congratulate our coordinator, Pablo Ruiz Ramos, on his silver anniversary with his passion, surfing. Pablo, born on June 20, 1979, is celebrating 25 years of surfing by sharing his story with us.

The Beginnings of Pablo Ruiz in Surfing
Pablo Ruiz’s surfing journey began at just 13 years old in the small fishing town of Suances. His first board, a Jalaika made right there in the village, was bought by his sister and used by him for a long time. His first surf session was in July 1992, and after a break, he started surfing more regularly from late August that same year.
Using that second-hand board, and later another one specially designed for him, Pablo began traveling beyond his hometown just before turning 18. He sought out the best waves in Spain — from Mundaka in the Basque Country, Rodiles in Asturias, and Pantín in A Coruña, Galicia — and even ventured abroad to surf in France and Portugal.
Once he started his university studies in Environmental Sciences in León, he surfed less frequently but still took his board with him to ride waves on Portuguese beaches. During his degree, he participated in an Erasmus exchange in Hamburg, Germany. Although he didn’t bring his own board, he rented one and surfed in some of the most unusual spots for the sport, like Fehmarn in northern Germany and the Eisbach River in Munich — that is, river surfing!

A true professional and well-known surfer from Suances, who, after finishing his studies, set out to surf around the world — Morocco, Sri Lanka — but especially on the beaches of his hometown Suances. His favorite spots include La Concha, La Tablía, and above all, Los Locos Beach, a protected surf reserve in Europe known for the quality of its waves and unique orientation.
The Beginnings of Biosurfcamp
After several years working as a leisure instructor and surf instructor, and after earning the TD2 surf instructor certification from the Cantabria Federation — the highest qualification in this discipline — he decided to start his own venture, what we now know as Biosurfcamp. The project was initially called Surfcamp, El Huerto de Los Locos, then later Biosurfcamp, El Huerto de Los Locos, before finally adopting its current name.
His formula for teaching surfing is simple: “Learn the technique of popping up, master paddling on the waves, and control your body position to maintain balance on the board“… and above all, have fun and be consistent — that’s what keeps you hooked on surfing. Because of this, he recently launched surfing video tutorials on the Biosurfcamp YouTube channel. This way, Pablo aims to share his surfing method with everyone.
Simply Pablo… here’s to many more years and to you continuing to surf waves on beaches all
